Reconciliation House Invites You to Join Them in Their Annual Christmas Ministry

YATESVILLE - Reconciliation House, Inc. is preparing for the annual Christmas Day dinner. Volunteers provide Christmas Dinner to those in need in Monroe County on Christmas Day. " Within the past thirteen years, we have gone from serving 24 people to 475 people," said co-founder Angela Johnson. "Volunteers may serve as many as 600 people this year, but we can’t do it without your help."

There are several ways you can volunteer to make this year’s Christmas Dinner our most successful yet. Donations that are needed: approximately 50 cooked turkeys and 50 cooked hams, canned goods (i.e. green vegetables and cranberry sauce), bread (i.e. dinner rolls and corn bread), desserts (i.e. cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and brownies), casseroles (i.e. dressing and macaroni and cheese), canned/bottled drinks, napkins, and compartmentalized to-go containers.

Tax deductible monetary donations can be made to Reconciliation House Inc. or at reconciliationhouse.org. Please specify your gift to be used for the Christmas Dinner. All donations must be made by December 23rd.

How can you help? Volunteers are needed to process applications: We need individuals to distribute applications to public help service offices in Monroe County. Volunteers are needed to call to check on the progress of as well as pick up the applications. And volunteers are also needed to call applicants to inform them what time the delivery will be, receive clarifying directions from the applicants, and how many people we’ll need to serve in their household.

Volunteers are also need to prepare the routes. These volunteers should be more familiar with the Monroe County area and be able to divide the delivery addresses into zones for distribution of meals and gifts on Christmas day. Native Monroe County residents, former or present postal workers or public service employees would be most effective in preparing delivery routes.

Volunteers can also help prepare the meals. "We need people willing to smoke, fry or bake the donated turkeys and hams," Angela said.

On December 22nd and 23rd, people will be needed to prepare bags and utensils according to routes. Volunteers are also needed on December 24th to package the food in route order of preparation for delivery.

"On December 25th, we need drivers willing to deliver meals, showing love for neighbors, and embodying the love of Christ," Angela said. "This would be an excellent opportunity to invite those you meet to come visit your church!"

Angela asked for prayer for this ministry. "We hope everyone who hears about this will take time during this Christmas season to pray for both the recipients and the volunteers. Pray God will be present especially with the volunteers who deliver the meals, guiding them in what to do and say at each house, and that Christ will be made known to both those who deliver and those who receive. Pray also for those who will be receiving these Christmas dinners, for they are our neighbors in need."

You can fill out a volunteer registration form by clicking here. The deadline has been extended for volunteers past the original deadline.

You can come as an individual or bring people from your church or youth group to help pack these meals!
