Sgt. Grayson Child Competes in the 2023 Military District of Washington Best Squad Competition

ZEBULON - Sgt. Grayson Child of Zebulon, GA competed in the 2023 Military District of Washington Best Squad Competition. His squad had already won the best squad competition held at Fort Myer. Child’s squad defeated other squads from several companies on the base. This marks the second time Child was part of a Fort Myer Squad of the Year.

By winning the Fort Myer competition, Child was able to compete at the Military District of Washington competition held at Fort. A.P. Hill, VA. During the competition, Soldiers competed in a four-day event including marksmanship, land navigation, medical lanes and more. The squad competed against teams from The Army Aviation Brigade, Military District of Washington and the 66th Military Intelligence Brigade, U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command. At one point, Child’s squad had marched forty miles in two days.

Sgt Child’s squad finished a close second. The score stayed close throughout the competition. Had Child’s squad won, they would have advanced to the national competition in October held at Fort Stewart in Georgia.

For his effort during the competition, Sgt Child earned two challenge coins.

Sgt. Grayson Child is part of the 3rd Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) 4th Battalion (Commander-in-Chief) at Fort Myer in Arlington, VA. Sgt Child is a 2019 graduate of Pike County High School. He is the son of Todd and Adrienne Child.
