BREAKING NEWS: Highway 19 Wreck Sends One to Grady Hospital
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - An accident occurred on Highway 19 close to Vega Road on December 20, 2016 about 4:21 p.m. One person was transported to Grady from injuries incurred from the wreck.

Traffic came to a stand still on Highway 19 with a truck hauling a large trailer blocking most of the road after a van struck a truck that was attempting to make an improper U-turn in the road.

According to the accident report, the truck pulled out from Vega Road to go south on Highway 19 toward Thomaston and then made a U-turn across the road to go north on Highway 19 toward Zebulon. The U-turn was made to pick up some signs. The van was traveling south on Highway 19 and tried to avoid the truck by braking and crossing lanes from the southbound lanes and across the turning lane to the northbound lanes before striking the truck.

The driver of the 1999 International 4000 truck was Brent Goen from Spalding County. The driver of the 2005 Chrystler Town and Country van was Roger Portwood from Thomaston. There were six people involved in this accident including the two drivers and occupants of the vehicles.

One person from the van was transported to Grady by ambulance because air ambulance could not transport due to the weather.

The truck driver was charged with improper turn and driving with a wrong class of driver’s license.
