Zebulon Police Department Makes Arrest in Copper Theft

ZEBULON - According to Chief J. Hemphill on Monday July 20th, 2015, Zebulon Police Officers responded to Southside Steel located in Zebulon in reference to a Theft By Taking of copper wire. Upon arrival, officers found that approximately $6000.00 dollars in wire was taken along with some other miscellaneous items.

On Wednesday July 22nd, 2015, Lt. Jason Smith located the copper wire at a scrap yard in Spalding county and later had the victims identify the wire to be the same that was taken from the business. A check with the scrap yard showed that a Jody Lee Spruill of Pike County had sold the wire as scrap.

Lt. Smith then had Captain Jamie Strickland and Investigator Robert Snowden meet with him at the residence of Spruill to attempt to locate any other items that were taken from Southside Steel. On July 23rd, 2015, Lt. Smith along with Pike County Investigators executed a Search Warrant back at the residence located at 585 Dreamcatcher Drive located in Williamson.

Upon the search of the residence Methamphetamine was recovered along with other items that were linked back to thefts that were being investigated by the Spalding County Sheriff's Department and the Pike County Sheriff's Department. Jody Lee Spruill was arrested on charges of felony Theft By Taking and turned over to the Pike County Jail.
