Altercation Ends in Shots Fired and Arrests

GRIFFIN - On October 18, 2019 at approximately 1230, deputies responded to a report of shots fired at the dead end of Windsor Drive. Upon their arrival it was determined that several females were involved in an altercation. After the altercation, one of the females called family members and they arrived at the dead end of Windsor Road. Several relatives responded and shots were exchanged between the family members and subjects at the scene.

A female leaving the scene at Windsor Drive spotted the deputies that were responding to the scene and turned her vehicle around. Deputies attempted a traffic stop and the driver struck a patrol vehicle resulting in moderate damage to both vehicles. After impact the female’s vehicle continued down the roadway and into a storm ditch and came to rest on the passenger side.

Tonya Sanford was charged by troopers of the GA State Patrol with D.U.I., reckless driving, driving on a revoked license and improper lane usage. Ms. Sanford was also charged with aggravated assault (party to a crime) by Spalding investigators. A passenger in Sanford’s vehicle, Brent Groover, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. A firearm was recovered near the scene of the crash.

Crystal Hall was charged with battery related to the Windsor Road incident. Spalding investigators have also charged Nicholas Ryan Dix with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Dix is currently at large and is being sought on the charges. Charges are pending on Austin Sutton for aggravated assault.

Groover, Hall and Sanford are all being held at the Spalding County Jail and are awaiting a bond hearing.

The investigation is continuing with additional charges possible.
