48th Infantry Brigade Leaving for Afghanistan - Monday, November 26

ZEBULON - The 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Georgia National Guard has been activated to go to Afghanistan. Included in that unit are one member of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and one member from Pike County Public Works.

They will head out for duty on Monday, November 26th at 1 p.m. from the Kiwanis Field by the Armory in Griffin after a family gathering and exit ceremony that will be catered by Margo’s. The community is welcomed to show our support for these soldiers and their families by standing along the route that they will take as they head out of town. The buses will pass by schools in the area before heading out to Fort Stewart.

The route that they will follow from the Kiwanis Field will be up South Hill Street to Taylor Street where they will take a right on Taylor and travel up down by Griffith’s where they travel on Old Macon Road to Futral Road past the Futral Road School to Spalding High School and then to the Arthur Bolton Parkway where they will travel to I-75 for the final leg of their preparation at Fort Stewart before their deployment to Afghanistan.

Please keep our service members and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this time as well as during their deployment. Pike County Times extends a special thank you to each service member for their sacrifice and that of their families as they serve our country. Pike County Times is praying for a safe time of service and speedy return home!
