Utilities Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for the Incoming VA Clinic
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - A groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 11, 2020 to celebrate the providing of the utilities and the construction management of the new Veterans Administration (VA) Clinic in Zebulon. The property is located just north of Freshway and is projected to be wrapped up by September of 2021.

“This is a big deal for the city and the county and veterans in surrounding communities who will come here for the services they need,” said Zebulon Mayor Joe Walter. Matt Connolly, Senior Vice President of Development for the Molasky Group, said that the Molasky Group is honored to have been selected to develop this project and they are excited to be serving veterans in Pike and the surrounding counties. “The city and the county have been tremendous to work with,” he said.

It was noted that the Edwards donated the property in order to put in the pipes needed for water and sewer, and the project was described as a “team effort.” The City of Zebulon will be providing water and sewer for this project.

This will be a 60,000 square foot facility on over 11.25 acres with 100 full-time employees to care for the 78,000 veterans in this 10 county area. The building will be leased to the VA for the next 20 years.

Some of the specialties that were listed as part of the Request for Lease Proposal include Primary Care, Mental Health, Specialty Care, Radiology, Audiology, and Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy.

The two monuments built in 1933 will be moved to Zebulon City Park in the near future.

The VA Clinic is projected to be open in the first quarter of 2022.
