Pike Community Sports: Pike County Baseball: Season Preview
By Guest Columnist Christian Salvadore from SIA Insurance

ZEBULON - Pike County baseball, led by head coach Blake Parrott, will begin their season February 12th at home against the Ola Mustangs. Coming off a 24-15 season, the Pirates look to continue their recent run of success, which includes the 2022 3A State Title. The team will be returning just 4 starters from last year’s team, but Coach Parrott looks forward to this opportunity to lead a young group of hard workers.

Coach Parrott on his youthful 2024 team: “We do not have a superstar loaded team but what we do have is a group of young men that come to work each day and get after it. These guys love each other and push each other every single day. I will take a group like this over a group of superstars any day. This program is based on Faith, Family and Work. This is not anything new as we have had a great foundation laid down before us with the previous players and coaches. I cant wait to watch this team continue to grow and work towards becoming champions not only on the field but in life as well.”

Those returning starters are centerfielder Elijah Moss, both catchers Jackson Terry and Andrew Huffstetler, and starting pitcher Cooper Crow. Of those starters, two are so far signed on to play college ball at the next level. Crow specifically was named First Team all state last season, and will look to have an even more successful season this go around.

Coach Parrott also mentions that while the early part of schedule is particularly tough, the team did a great job of finishing strong last year in region play.

The team opens 2/12 at home against Ola, as it begins another exciting season of Pirate baseball!
