Districtwide: I-75 Commercial Vehicle Lanes Project Status Update - Includes Timeline and Current Project Activities

THOMASTON - To avoid of large gatherings as part of Georgia’s efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19, a recorded presentation showcasing progress on the I-75 Commercial Vehicle Lanes project has been released to the public which provides a status update from Georgia Department of Transportation's (Georgia DOT) program manager Matthew Fowler. The recorded presentation was posted to the project web page on Thursday, July 16, 2020.

The I-75 Commercial Vehicle Lanes project is part of the Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP). The project adds two, non-tolled, truck-only lanes along I-75 in the northbound direction from the I-475/I-75 Interchange near Macon to SR 155 in the McDonough area. The lanes will be separated from the general purpose lanes by concrete barriers. Delivery of this project in 2028 incorporates the 2017 Executive Order of One Federal Decision/Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) acceleration. While we have yet to realize the true impact of the new process, we are confident that this streamlining will have positive impacts on the delivery of all major projects.

The presentation is available for public viewing on the I-75 Commercial Vehicle Lanes project web page at https://majormobilityga.com/projects/i75cvl/. The presentation can also be viewed on Georgia DOT’s YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/-CbUGYfT4qY.

With the projected increase in freight traffic on I-75, the I-75 Commercial Vehicle Lanes project is critical for the safe and efficient movement of people, freight, and goods. Currently the project team is working on the following activities:

• Concept development is underway, with Georgia DOT approval of the Concept Report anticipated later this year. • Survey field work within the corridor is complete. • Environmental analysis is ongoing. Initial field surveys and reporting for ecology, underground storage tanks/hazardous waste, and historic resources are complete. Air, noise, and archaeology impact assessment reports are anticipated for completion in third quarter of 2020. • The traffic report is anticipated for completion in third quarter of 2020. • The current project schedule calls for the first Public Information Open House (PIOH) to be held in fourth quarter (Q4) 2020. More information will be distributed to the public closer to the meeting date.

For questions, comments, or concerns, contact the project team by email at 75CVL@dot.ga.gov or by calling the project hotline at 678-528-7275.
