Georgia 3 Resurfacing Project to Start Jan. 2; Will Involve Lane Closures

UPSON AND TAYLOR COUNTIES - On Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020 (weather permitting), road construction crews will start a project to mill and lay new asphalt on nearly 14 miles of US 19 / Georgia 3 in Taylor and Upson Counties, from the Flint River Bridge in Taylor County to Cook Road in Upson County. The project is scheduled to be active seven days a week, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day, until Tuesday, Mar. 31, 2020.

The crews, with their large vehicles and equipment, will move northbound and southbound, lane by lane, on the state highway as they mill up the old surface of the roadway and then lay new asphalt. A lane closure will be enacted around the work zone to protect the road construction crews and allow them the space they need. It will move with the crews as they progress along the highway.

Signage and orange and white barrels will be used to alert motorists to the closure ahead. Drivers are encouraged to slow their speeds and drive with caution around the work zone. As it could be in either northbound or southbound lanes, they should be ready for either possibility and plan accordingly, as traffic congestion may occur near the work zone.
