BREAKING NEWS: Commercial Wrecker Accident Closes Hwy 109 for Several Hours

MOLENA - Yesterday evening at 6:52 p.m. Pike County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 109 in the area of Deer Trail. Upon arrival, a commercial wrecker was found to have left the roadway and came to rest after striking trees. The cab was dislodged from the vehicle.

Unfortunately the driver, Marty Wheeler, was deceased at the scene. Highway 109 was closed for several hours as the vehicle did catch on fire and fuel was spilled on the road. Pike County Emergency Services were able to extinguish the fire and the Georgia Department of Transportation was utilized to assist with the fluid spill and to assess damage that was caused to the roadway.

All traffic that came upon the accident had to be turned around and rerouted away from the crash site for about four hours last night.

Traffic Investigators are still working to recreate the events leading up to the crash. The vehicle was part of Mike's Wrecker Service fleet out of Griffin.
