ZEBULON - Pike County Times received an update on the VA Clinic from Zebulon City Administrator Larry Mitchum. He advised that a memorandum of understanding has been signed to provide water and sewer to the facility.
Administrator Mitchum said that this step was needed to provide for the service delivery strategy for the project as well as financing. “The City has hired an engineering firm to represent the City in the water and sewer portion of the VA project,” Mitchum said.
Depending on the weather, city engineers are going to start looking at the best way to run water and sewer to the property as soon as possible. He said that there could be some activity on the site as early as the end of this week.
This would be preliminary site work. Heavy activity is not projected to begin until later this summer. He said that the current plan was for the Molasky Group of Companies to actually start moving dirt on the project later in the summer.
The latest information that has been given to Pike County Times show the projected clinic opening to be in the spring of fiscal year 2022. Past press releases from the VA advise that this will be a 49,300 net usable square foot facility that will provide local Veterans with primary care, mental health, and specialty care services.
