SPALDING COUNTY - Spalding County issued a press release earlier today stating that Spalding County has been impacted by a tornado warning with the storm causing significant damage to homes, power lines, and trees. Pike County Times received confirmation through Pike EMA that tornado had been confirmed by the National Weather Service.
“While we are relieved to report that no injuries have been reported at this time, we are actively assessing the damage and working tirelessly to clear debris and obstacles from the roads to ensure everyone’s safety and mobility,” it said.
Shortly after the storm came through, Spalding County issued a notice that several roads were closed including Avalee Road, Vaughn School Road from Jim Goodson to Cheatham Rd, Vaughn Rd from W Ellis to Campground, Westwood at Vaughn, and Hwy 92 at Vineyard. There were also trees down on the railroad tracks near the closed crossing Kilgore at Caruso.
Current road closures include Vaughn School Rd (Between Fire Station and Cheatham), 80 Vaughn School Rd, Avalee Rd, and Vineyard and Hwy 92. Watch the Spalding County and Spalding Sheriff’s Office pages for current updates on Facebook.
Chief Polk, stated, “Our thoughts are affected with all those, and we remain committed to supporting the recovery efforts as quickly and efficiently as possible and being prepared is our best defense. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time.”
Areas of north Pike County were under the tornado warning at this time, but Pike County has not been notified of any damage in Pike County.
