BREAKING NEWS: Storm Brings High Winds to Pike County
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - Pike County and all of central Georgia was affected by a line of strong thunderstorms that blew through the area Monday afternoon shortly after lunch. There were three calls to E911 for trees down after the call, but no tornadoes touched down here in Pike County.

Pike County Times was advised of trees down on Hwy 109 East, Vega Road, and neighbors working to help get a tree off of a house on Kings Road.

Around 500 Southern Rivers Energy customers were without power in Pike County after the storm with more than 1,300 without power for a time south of Pike County.

Pike County EMA Director Jim Totten kept up a running commentary on Facebook before, during and after the storm to give followers a heads up on the storm.

Many thanks to Director Totten for sending information to Pike County Times for this article as well.

Tornados In Central Georgia

While parts of Pike County dealt with strong winds that left many without power, central Coweta County had a tornado touch down. An EF-0 tornado with maximum winds up to 75 miles per hour touched down at approximately 12:32 p.m.

This tornado within a strong line of thunderstorms initially touched down along Lower Fayetteville Road just east of Interstate 85 in Newnan and traveled northeast in a path that crossed Shenandoah, Sullivan, and Lora Smith Roads. Large branches and trees were downed along its 5 mile pathway according to the National Weather Service.

It moved through Legacy Estates Subdivision where it snapped multiple trees and then lifted up around 12:39 p.m. after crossing Sharpsburg-McCollum Road near the Manchester Subdivision just 1 mile southeast of Thomas Crossroads.

An EF-1 tornado touched down in central Henry County with winds estimated between 85 and 90 miles per hour. It was also part of a strong line of thunderstorms in the area.

It touched down about 1:08 p.m. close to Interstate 75 and Jodeco Road and lifted up about 8 minutes later after crossing Brannan Road, Hwy 42, and Hwy 155 near Knight Cemetery. Numerous trees were down including one that fell on a house near Highland Drive and Meadowbrook Drive.

There were no injuries or deaths reported from either tornado.

ADDED 4.7.25: 6 tornadoes have been confirmed in areas around us including Coweta County, Fayetteville, Henry County, Peach/Houston/Bibb Counties, Carroll County, and one in Houston County.]
