BREAKING NEWS: Arrest Made in Rock Store Burglaries
By Editor Becky Watts

MEANSVILLE - An investigation into two reported smash and grab burglaries and one attempt of a burglary at the Rock Store on Highway 19 has concluded and one suspect arrested.

According to Major David Neal of the Pike County Sheriff's Office, the suspect, John Mons who is 52 years of age from Molena, used a rock to break a glass door in order to gain entry into the store twice in one weekend as shown in the Breaking News article from July 16, 2018 below. He attempted to break into the Rock Store in May.

The cash drawer was the only item stolen. Surveillance cameras provided images of the masked thief and blood evidence was collected from one of the burglaries where it appeared Mons had cut himself on the broken glass.

After identifying Mons as a suspect, a search warrant was served on his residence and for a DNA sample from Mons. Further evidence was also collected from the residence. The DNA evidence has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for analysis. Major Neal said that the arrest was made through "solid investigative work."

Mons was arrested and is being charged with two counts of smash and grab burglary and one count of attempted smash and grab burglary. Mons is currently on parole for prior burglary convictions. According to Major Neal, there are numerous prior burglary convictions on his record.

John Mons is currently on parole for burglary. According to the Department of Corrections website, Mons' parole began in February of 2018 and was supposed to continue through 2024.
