ZEBULON - It is the time of year when rabies can be spotted around the state. Pike County is no different. Citizens are asked to be be aware of their surroundings and notify Animal Control or the Pike County Sheriff's Office if there is an issue with a possible rabid animal.
Animal Control Officer Tanya Perkins advised Pike County Times that a raccoon recently testd positive for rabies after it possibly came in contact with a cat around the 1300 block of County Farm Rd. This is right across the road from the ball fields.
If citizens have an animal control issue, you can contact Officer Tanya Perkins at 678-603-7285 or call the Sheriff’s Office after hours and they will enter information into a report that is given to Animal Control. If you would like to see updates from Tanya, you can find her on Facebook by clicking here..
[Note from the Editor: I originally had the Planning and Zoning number on here because I pulled from an old article before I was properly caffeinated this morning. The number now goes to Animal Control. Thank you to Tanya for catching that error!]
Pets are required by law to receive rabies vaccinations. More information about rabies and requirements for pet vaccines can be found here: rabiesaware.org/state/georgia.
