BREAKING NEWS: Fire Breaks Out at Oink Joint Overnight

ZEBULON - Around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, May 10, a smoke alarm call came in for emergency response for a smoke detector activation at the MarketPlace on the Square in Zebulon.

This was quickly upgraded to smoke showing at the Oink Joint by officers from the Zebulon Police Department who also responded to the emergency call.

At approximately 2:35 a.m. personnel from the Pike County Fire Department responded with Engine 7 and Ladder 7 finding a working structure fire. Personnel began an offensive attack through the front door and called for mutual aid.

Spalding County Fire Department, City of Griffin Fire Department, and Northside Fire Department from Upson County responded. ADDED 5.11.22: Rock Hill Fire Department responded as well.

The cause of the fire was located in the cooking area and extinguished. The fire was contained to Oink Joint including the attic and area directly below the business.

There is extensive damage to the Oink Joint. The windows are smoke stained and don’t really show the damage that a walk inside the building shows.

Adjoining buildings have minor smoke and heat damage, but the utilities remained on to those locations and business operations were able to continue today.

Pike County Fire Department personnel were on scene until 10 a.m.
