BREAKING NEWS: 3rd Suspect Arrested in Patton Road Murder; GBI Investigating Officer Involved Shooting

ZEBULON - Antonio Murgado Jr. is in custody after being arrested by the U.S. Marshalls office in Fayette County. Murgado was wanted for murder by the Pike County Sheriff's Office.

An officer involved shooting did occur during the arrest of Murgado. Any questions regarding that incident should be referred to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Fayette County

FAYETTEVILLE – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Fayetteville, Fayette County, GA. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Sunday, July 24, 2022. Antonio Murgado, age 19, of Griffin, GA, and a United States Marshals Task Force Officer were shot during this incident.

Preliminary information indicates that at 9:18 a.m., the United States Marshals Service and Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, executed an arrest warrant for Murgado at 429 Sage Brush Trail in Fayetteville.

Murgado was wanted for a death related to an investigation in Pike County, Georgia. When officers entered the home, Murgado fired a gun and hit a Task Force Officer one time. Officers returned gunfire at Murgado, hitting him multiple times.

The Task Force Officer and Murgado were treated at the scene and taken to Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, with non-life-threatening injuries.

The GBI investigation is active and ongoing. Once the investigation is completed, the case file will be given to the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.

BREAKING NEWS: 2nd Arrest Made, 3rd Suspect Being Sought in Patton Road Murder

ZEBULON - On Tuesday afternoon Pike County Sheriff's office investigators arrested a 14 year old juvenile for their involvement in the shooting death of James Knight.

On Friday, July 22, Pike County Times asked District Attorney Marie Broder if she intended to prosecute the 14 year as an adult and received the following reply, "Yes. I authorized the Pike County Sheriff's Office to take warrants out on the 14 year old. It is my intention to try her as an adult." (Thank you to Fun 101 WTGA for the heads up on this!)

The female juvenile is currently being held in a youth detention facility and is currently charged with party to a crime felony murder. The juvenile is from Lamar County.

Investigators have also obtained an arrest warrant for Antonio Murgado Jr., 19 years of age, for felony murder. He was currently on bond through Clayton County for armed robbery and in Spalding County for possession of methamphetamine.

Murgado is not currently in custody and is being sought after by law enforcement.

Additional charges are being filed against Jaiden Chappell by investigators. These charges are armed robbery, use of telecommunication device to facilitate a crime, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and making false statements.

BREAKING NEWS: 2nd Arrest Made in Patton Road Murder

ZEBULON - Major David Neal from the Pike County Sheriff's Office gave a breaking news update on the Patton Road drug deal murder while speaking at the Pike County Republican Party meeting tonight.

Major Neal advised that another arrest has been made. A 14 year old female was arrested around 3 p.m. today.

He also advised that Investigators are working to obtain arrest warrants for a male individual who actually pulled the trigger in this incident. "We hope to have him in custody soon and this case cleared up."

“None of the people involved in that are from Pike County,” he said. "That's not the Pike County way."

Pike County Times will update this as more information becomes available.

BREAKING NEWS: Female Suspect Arrested in Drug Deal Murder

ZEBULON - Jaiden Chappell is in custody and currently housed at the Pike County Jail. Chappell is charged with murder and is awaiting her first court appearance.

Investigators continue to follow leads in the murder of James Knight.

Additional arrests are possible in this case.

No further information will be released at this time as this is an on going investigation.

BREAKING NEWS: Drug Deal Ends in Death in Zebulon; Female Suspect from Griffin Sought

ZEBULON - A press release was issued just before midnight on Saturday, July 16, 2022 which advised that an investigation into a murder was ongoing on Patton Road.

Pike County deputies and investigators are currently on the scene of a homicide that occurred at a residence on Patton Road. A male victim was shot and has succumbed to his injuries. The suspects fled the area and this is not believed to be a random act of violence. Investigators are following leads and details will be provided at the appropriate time.

An update was given this morning with information on one suspect which the investigators are working to identify a second suspect.

Deputies responded to the scene of a shooting last night at 10:00 p.m. The incident occurred at 214 Patton Road, outside of a residence. The shooting resulted in the death of James Knight, 19 years of age. The initial investigation has revealed that the shooting happened during an illicit drug deal.

Investigators have identified one suspect and are working to identify a second.

This act was not a random act of violence as Knight was targeted by the suspects.

A murder arrest warrant has been obtained for Jaiden Chappell, 18 years of age, from Griffin.
