BREAKING NEWS: Update - Name of Molena Reserve Police Officer Involved In Shooting Released

MOLENA - The name of the police officer who was involved in the Atlanta shooting has been released. Dan Wilcox is a reserve officer with the City of Molena Police Department.

Pike County Times was advised that Officer Wilcox is at home and is recovering nicely.

Citizens from Molena are planning to a BBQ fundraiser in the near future to help Officer Wilcox with his healthcare expenses.

BREAKING NEWS: Molena Reserve Police Officer Involved In Shooting

THOMASTON - One man is dead and a reserve police officer from Molena is in the hospital after a shootout in Downtown Atlanta.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reports the shooting happened on the 300 block of Luckie Street Monday around 10 p.m.

According to officials, the injured reserve officer was working for parking enforcement company ATL Plus and was sitting in his patrol vehicle when the suspect approached him and shot a firearm.

The reserve officer was shot in the neck and then returned fire, hitting and killing the gunman.

Police arrived at the scene and found the unidentified man already dead as well as a woman who appeared to be grazed by a bullet.

Paramedics took the woman to the hospital where at last check she is in stable condition.

After being shot, the reserve officer showed up at Grady Memorial Hospital. He's also in stable condition.

The GBI hasn't said why the gunman fired on the reserve officer, but Atlanta police reported the shooting stemmed from an altercation. This is the 80th officer-involved shooting the GBI has been asked to investigate this year.

The GBI and the City of Molena are not releasing anything else at this time. However, when something is released, there will be a follow up. The man who died in this incident has been identified as Jamon Darryl McCall, age 25, of Lithonia.

The injured officer remains in stable condition.

From the original GBI Press Release: GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta

(Atlanta, GA) - The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting that happened on 320 Luckie Street, in Atlanta. One man has died in the incident, and one Molena Police Department reserve police officer is injured.

The preliminary information indicates that on Monday, October 25, 2021, at 9:52 p.m., an off-duty Molena Police Department reserve police officer was working with ATL Plus, a parking enforcement company. The officer was sitting in his patrol vehicle when he was approached by a man who shot a firearm at the officer, hitting the officer in the neck. During the incident, the officer shot his firearm, hitting the man. The man died at the scene.

Agents on scene found the man who died in possession of a firearm. The officer is being treated at a local area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation and once complete, it will be provided to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
