BREAKING NEWS: Zebulon Library to Open Curbside Service
By Guest Colmnist Alyssa Williams

ZEBULON - Beginning Monday, May 11, the J. Joel Edwards Public Library will begin a curbside service pickup for patrons who have received items through the holds system. “The beginning stage of this curbside service is to clear out the backlog of holds that we received before we closed the building to the public,” stated staff member Helen Carter.

Patrons who have received a notification stating that they have a book available for pick-up will be able to swing by the library Monday through Friday between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM and receive their items.

Instructions on How to Interact with Staff

Curbside customers should pull up to the front door and call the library, with their card number, to let a staff member know they have arrived to pick-up their items.

While the driver’s window remains rolled up, patrons will show the staff member their library card and then roll down the window of an unoccupied seat in the vehicle. Patrons can also pop their trunk and have the items placed there instead.

Instructions on How to Return Library Items

Any books that patrons may wish to return can be placed in the outside book drop each weekend from 5:00 PM Friday to 10:00 AM Monday. [Note from the Editor: This is how our libraries are dealing with COVID-19 safety regulations. I've returned my books this way and am ecstatic to be able to get my book that has been on hold since the pandemic began. If you aren't a library patron, this may not be big news to you, but it's huge for those who use it on a regular basis. And there are options for online only usage of the library while the library is closed to the public that you might want to look into.]

Closing
