BREAKING NEWS: Planning and Development Director Hired During BOC Meeting

ZEBULON - The Pike County Commission had a discussion of the Planning and Development Director Job Vacancy on the agenda for tonight's meeting. Two candidates were present at the meeting to be interviewed by commissioners during the Executive Session that was added before Item g was discussed in the meeting.

Cassandra Hettermann and Jeremy Gilbert were both present at the meeting and went into the back individually to speak with the Board of Commissioners during the Executive Session. Both have extensive experience in Planning and Development.

After the commissioners came back into session, County Manager Brandon Rogers made a recommendation to hire Jeremy Gilbert. Rogers does the hiring and firing in the county with the exception of department heads and those working for constitutional officers. Gilbert's hire required a vote from the commissioners who followed Rogers' recommendation and voted unanimously to hire Gilbert.

Jeremy Gilbert has been in Planning and Development for 17 years, and he grew up and currently lives in Henry County. When asked, "Why Pike County?" he simply said that Pike County reminds him of home and growing up in Henry County.

He is currently the Planner for the Henry County Board of Commissioners. He advised Pike County Times that he will work a two week notice for Henry County.

Gilbert's first day could be as soon as June 9.
