BREAKING NEWS: Flooding Affects Pike County Roads
UPDATED 6.10.19

MOLENA - (UPDATED 6.12.19) Pike County Dispatch received 30 calls that were storm related from From Friday through yesterday. At the present time, there is only one road that is still closed in the county.

Mountain View Road at Weems Road is closed at the intersection on the east side toward Kings Road because 2 eight foot culverts have deteriorated and the road is undermined. This will be opened as soon as possible.

ADDED 6.12.19: Commissioners were advised at the meeting today that the road will remained closed for probably another two weeks because the culverts beneath the road are rusted out and need to be replaced. Public Works is working on calls diligently. END OF ADDED SECTION

All other roads from yesterday's closures are back open and passable. The county is working to get them back in good shape. [Note from the Editor: See yesterday's article below.]

[Note from the Editor: Please make sure to say thank you to Public Works for the work that they have been doing on our roads and for keeping the public updated on closures. This is a whole lot of water, and the roads that they have worked on during past deluges are not having issues this go around. Sometimes we have to count our blessings where we can find them in the midst of 7+ inches of rain! Some places in Pike County received more than 8 inches of rain!]

BREAKING NEWS: Flooding Affects Pike County Roads
UPDATED 6.10.19

ZEBULON - Pike County currently has two roads that are completely closed due to flooding. If you see other roads or areas that need to be blocked off for safety reasons, please contact emergency dispatch by calling 911 and advising of the location.

Old Zebulon Road near Cook Road at Powder Creek is closed though Public Works Director Todd Goolsby advised around 1:30 p.m. that he anticipates opening it later today after inspecting and water recedes.

Milner Road at Bottoms Road is closed due to flooding. Director Goolsby advised that it will be opened in the morning after getting a few loads of material on site.

"We do have some areas where minor flooding has caused some issues in roadways but doesn’t warrant closing them," he said. "Repairs will be made soon."

"It seems as though the Molena and Concord areas were hardest hit. Saturday was busy with numerous downed trees countywide and today mostly flooding issues with a few trees coming down across the roads," he continued. "All and all we are in good shape and handling calls as received."

If citizens see an area where there is flooding or they cannot get in or out from either direction of their driveways due to flooding, please contact the Sheriff's Office by 911 to notify Dispatch of the sitution so they can notify the Public Works to take care of the problem.

If there is water coming over a road, do not cross the area. Please turn around and notify 911 of the issue if the area isn't already blocked off. The road could be compromised beneath what you see and your life is more important than trying to get somewhere in a hurry and possibly ending up in an emergency situation.
