BREAKING NEWS: Tanker Accident at Flash Foods in Zebulon; No Spill, No Injuries

ZEBULON - The front of fuel tanker was sitting on the ground beside the pumps at Flash Foods in Zebulon a little before 5 p.m. First responders directed traffic in the outer lane as vehicles passed the gas station, and traffic was completely diverted from the area as the plan to upright the truck was undertaken successfully.

Public Information Officer Anita Neath advised at 5:40 p.m. that there were 5k gallons of fuel in the tanker and that GMAG (Georgia Mutual Aid Group) Atlanta’s Foam Truck 28 was 45 minutes out.

The tractor to the left of the tow truck was hauling the tanker but experienced mechanical failure. When the stands were deployed and the tractor was removed by the tow truck, the fuel located in the front and middle sections of the tanker caused the tanker to tip. (See photo below this article courtesy of the Pike County Fire Department.)

PIO Neath advised that there were no leaks. It was 7 p.m. tonight before a truck was on scene to pump fuel out of the tanker.

Traffic was diverted from Highway 19 away from Flash Foods for a period of time as a precaution measure when preparations were made and the tanker was uprighted.

Here is YouTube Vido of the tanker being uprighted courtesy of Anita Neath.

Life in Zebulon and along Highway 19 went back to normal around 9 p.m. tonight.

Thank you to our first responders, law enforcement, and emergency personnel for a job well done!
