BREAKING NEWS: Quick Response By Fire Department Saves Home

MEANSVILLE - There was a fire on Old Meansville Road tonight that was over and done in just a couple of hours. The fire was contained in the bathroom where it began.

The fire started in the bathroom and was possibly caused by an electric heater. Fire fighters contained the fire to the bathroom, and only 59 gallons of water was needed to stop the fire. To put this into perspective, a typical fire engine holds 1,000 gallons of water or less and Engine 1 holds 1,250 gallons of water.

The first fire fighter on the scene was able to make entry and close the bathroom door. This kept the fire from spreading to other parts of the house until the truck arrived with water to put out the fire.

Less than 15 minutes after the call had gone out to 911, fire fighters from Stations 1, 3, 6, 7, and 8 had responded along with trucks from each of these five stations to help put out the fire along with the Meansville Fire Department.

The Fire Chief and both Deputy Chiefs were also on the scene.

"It was an amazing showing of apparatus and personnel!" said Public Information Officer Anita Neath.

One of the Deputy Chiefs was told by the homeowner how grateful and impressed he was with the response of our fire department volunteers. He had been told that if he moved to Pike County and his home caught on fire, it would burn to the ground. The homeowner was impressed with the fact that the fire department got there before he did and said that they did a great job.
