BREAKING NEWS: 46th Annual Concord Country Jubilee Cancelled for Safety Reasons
By Editor Becky Watts

CONCORD - On Thursday, July 23, the Concord City Council and the Mayor held an open meeting at City Hall in which they discussed the 2020 Concord Country Jubilee. The Concord Jubilee is held in October of each year.

Mayor John Strickland wrote a letter dated July 24 that The Country Jubilee is a long-standing tradition that the City of Concord enjoys hosting for the community, but he stated that safety is of the utmost importance to the City of Concord.

“Unfortunately, the city does not have the resources to meet the recommended safety measures for proper sanitizing of bathrooms and wash stations at an event this size,” he said. “Hand-to-hand contact between visitors and vendors with food, crafts and children activities is unavoidable and could cause unsuspecting spread of the COVID virus.”

“For the well-being of our community, council felt it best to cancel this year’s 2020 Jubilee,” he continued. “It is the hope that by practicing safety this year, we will get to be together in 2021. Until then, stay healthy!”

The City of Concord has presented The Country Jubilee for the past 45 years without any cancellations. This would have been the 46th continuous presentation of The Country Jubilee. Look for it again next year in October!
