BREAKING NEWS: Overnight Wreck Occurs in Williamson - UPDATED 3.19.19

WILLIAMSON - Georgia State Patrol Officers were performing a road check at the horse farm on Hwy. 362 in Williamson last night around 12:44 a.m. when contact was made with a white Tahoe heading toward Meriwether County. Cpl. Jason McClung advised that the driver of the Tahoe took off from the road check and made it probably less than a mile before he wrecked his vehicle.

The vehicle left the roadway and rolled several times at 962 Hwy. 362 West just past the Dollar General at Old Fayetteville Road. The driver of the Tahoe was ejected from his vehicle because he was not wearing his seatbelt. The name of the person driving the Tahoe was 44 year old Cleveland Dorsey. He is pictured above in a booking photo from a 2018 arrest for failure to drive within a single lane, D.U.I, and Open container in vehicle. Dorsey had an active warrant in Pike County for a probation violation at the time that he ran from law enforcement.

The trooper following the Tahoe also lost control and wrecked his vehicle. His vehicle left the roadway and flipped, but he was wearing his seatbelt. The Georgia State Patrol Trooper who was involved in this accident was TPR Jacob Oliver. TPR Oliver is the same officer who arrested Dorsey for D.U.I. in 2018.

The driver of the Tahoe was transported to Grady Hospital by Life Flight. The trooper was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and later released.

There was some property damage at the wreck site beyond the two vehicles, but no other vehicles on the roadway were involved. Charges are pending against the driver of the Tahoe. Pike County Times has learned that the power and internet were out in this area for some time after the accident.

Cleveland Dorsey was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, seatbelt violation, failure to maintain lane, D.U.I., and suspended license.

[Note from the Editor: This article was updated on 3.19.19 to include the name of both drivers, charges in this case, the booking photo and arrest information from 2018, and current probation violation information. It was also added that power and internet were out for some time as a result of this wreck. Special thanks to Cpl. McClung for working with me as I wrote up this article.]
