BREAKING NEWS: An Arrest and a Wreck in Pike County

ZEBULON - The Pike County Sheriff's Office and first responders have been involved in two incidents in the past 24 hours in Pike County. The first happened overnight and the second occurred around 1 p.m. this afternoon.

Traffic Stop That Occurred Last Night

According to Major David Neal of the Pike County Sheriff's Office, a traffic stop last night ended in the arrest of 41 year old Charles Williams of Upson County.

As Williams was being pulled over for this traffic stop, he threw a bag of methamphetamine (the bag is laying on the bottom gun in the picture above) out of the vehicle. The firearms pictured above were located in the vehicle that Williams was driving and will be seized under asset forfeiture proceedings.

Williams is currently in the Pike County Jail and is charged with Possession of methamphetamine and Possession of firearms during the commission of a crime.

Wreck That Occured This afternoon

A Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on Highway 19 at what witnesses reported as a high rate of speed. In the area of Vega Road, the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and left the roadway. It turned over in a ditch.

Pike County Times took pictures on the scene this afternoon but waited for the family to be notified before posting this article.

Douglas Briggs, 28 of Fayetteville, was driving the Camry. He was taken to Macon by life flight helicopter.

This accident is under investigation.
