To Volunteer

To volunteer with the VA, contact the Center for Development and Community Engagement at https://www.volunteer.va.gov/ or call 404-728-7728.

Volunteer programs include Compassionate Contact Corps where trained volunteers are matched with Veterans that are experiencing loneliness or are socially isolated and volunteers make weekly calls to provide socialization and companionship via phone or video calls. Many volunteers come from Veteran service organizations and are Veterans themselves, but that is not a requirement to volunteer for the program.

Corporate organizations can give something back to the community while helping America’s Veterans through Corporate Volunteerism. Student volunteers can receive valuable experience and training that can help in applying for college and jobs, and the James H. Parke Memorial Youth Scholarship Award provides scholarship opportunities to students who volunteer at VA medical centers.

The week of February 14 provides an opportunity for individuals, Veterans groups, military personnel, civic organizations, businesses, schools, local media, celebrities and sports stars to participate in a variety of activities at the VA medical centers to reach out to more than 9 million Veterans of the U.S. armed services who are cared for in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers, outpatient clinics, domiciliaries, and nursing homes. This includes special ward visits and valentine distributions; photo opportunities; school essay contests; special recreation activities and Veteran recognition programs. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Health Care Talent Academy (HCTA) will be a dynamic and innovative learning and development program for undergraduate students interested in health care careers.
