GRIFFIN - An afternoon of elegance, education, and entertainment was enjoyed by over 75 senior women at Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Xi Beta Omega Chapter’s High Noon Tea. The Tea, an annual event, was held at the Southern Crescent Technical College and is given in honor of the senior women who reside in the chapter’s service areas. This year’s theme, “A Sip of Sophistication,” was reflected in the elegant attire worn by attendees.
Mrs. Chantel Johnson, MSW (Master of Social Work), a Behavior Specialist for Griffin-Spalding County Schools, spoke on health and wellbeing which included topics on social and emotional support and safety and independence. The Xi Beta Omega Ensemble provided musical entertainment, and each guest received a gift of appreciation. A highlight of the afternoon was a hat contest. Winners received certificates of recognition. Winners were: Kandicee Daniel for the Best Vintage Hat, Shirley Pierce Flemister for the Most Elegant Hat, Linda Smith-Olivier for the Best Fascinator, Emma Jean Taylor, for the Biggest Show Stopper and Mary Helen King Prigeon for the Best Floral Hat. Dr. Eleajah McElroy was the chairman of the event and Mrs. Lyneil Charity is the chapter president.
Organized in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. The Xi Beta Omega Chapter was established in Griffin in 1981.
