ZEBULON - The Pike County 4-H Horse Club spent their January 17 holiday visiting Gemara Farm in Barnesville where Bonnie Martin gave a demonstration of the Missouri Fox Trotter horse.
Bonnie and one of her students rode two Fox Trotter mares to illustrate the unusual gaits of this American breed. The club learned how the breed was developed, the breed standard requirements, and also about the particular riding discipline the Martins participate in.
The Horse Club plans to visit more local farms to learn about various breeds, including a trip to an Oldenburg farm in February and a Quarter Horse farm in March.
