Welcome to the Pike County Times.com 2008 Relay for Life Page.

This is the first Pike County Relay for Life that I have had the opportunity to participate in. I am more familiar with Upson County Relay, but this was a lot of fun too. If you have additional pictures that you would like to have added to this page, please email them to me at: editor@pikecountytimes.com with your name so I can give you credit for taking the picture. Please send them in the smallest size possible since I am doing this website from dial up. (Georgia Broadband, please go down New Hope Road so you can do what AT&T has not!!)

I hope you enjoy the story and pictures as much as I enjoyed being a part of this evening. If you missed out this year, please support ongoing efforts to raise funds for cancer research at Relay for Life events that take place all year round, and look for the next Relay for Life in May of 2009.

Crumb Crazy for a Cure kids walked the track.

Miss Pride of Pike was one of the pretty women on the track that evening.

Commissioner Roosevelt Willis and Eddie Parks had fun raising money for a cure.

This teacher helped her students raise money for a cure.

There were many people out to support the Relay including these Pike County High School students.

The picture on the right is of the judges for the um lovely women contest. It was for a good cause though. From a cheerleader to the 2007 and 2008 winner Commissioner Roosevelt Willis who received a $500 donation from the Kiwanis Club, it was great fun!

The Sheriff joined in the cheer to stomp out cancer.

One of John's wayward children.

This "Daddy" of two contestants wears a lipstick kiss.

This is the other wayward child.

This lady shaved "her" legs but not her face!

Team Willis walks for a cure. It was really cool talking to students at Moreland Road Elementary School and meeting a relative of Team Willis who told her class who everyone was on Team Willis!

Pike County Primary students and faculty raised money for cancer research with sales of flowers and ring pops and lots more during the year.

Lisa and Billy pose for a picture.

The Blounts attended the Relay for Life.

Does this "lady" own a store in the same parking lot with Crumb Crazy?!

We pause for a somber moment with a boy and his bear.

Organizers spoke for a moment at the beginning of the event.

Everybody was pink in honor of their survivor including the dog!

The survivors walk was really cool...

because everyone standing around the track applauded them as they walked by.

This cancer supporter passed out beads to all of the survivors.

The band led the way around the track playing for the Survivors who walked behind them.

Two survivors finishing up their victory walk.

This "lady" is pregnant and did a funky dance for the judges.

Realtors for a Cure and

The Neighborhood Teams walked the 3rd lap around the track.

Christ Chapel chased the cure.

And this "lady" drove in on a Harley.

The wall at the Elementary School was full of hands and stars with names of those who were helping donate to Relay for Life.

In the midst of all the fun however, the meaning for the night was crystal clear. These glowing reminders lined the track in honor of those who are fighting cancer and in memory of those who have lost their battle with cancer.
